Highlands, Cashiers, and other surrounding areas in North Carolina have over 100 different waterfalls.

Whitewater Falls:

The upper falls, which is in North Carolina cascades for 411 Feet and is the highest falls east of the Mississippi River. The lower falls, in South Carolina, is 400 feet tall. A scenic view of the upper falls in a 5 minute walk from the the parking lot.

Take U.S. 64 to Cashiers and take N.C. 107 south in South Carolina. Turn left on Wigington Road (S.C. 37-413), which ends in 2 miles at a stop sign. Turn left on S.C./ 130, which becomes N.C. 281. The falls will be on the right side of the road just after you croos back into North Carolina.



If you want to see the lower part of the Whitewater Falls, there is a stairway available to walk down, but make sure you have good shoes, enough water, and be in shape to walk down and up the stairway.
Dry Falls:

You can take an easy walk behind this falls on the Cullasaja River. The falls is 75 feet high. Cullasaja is the Cherokee word for sugar water. This falls is located on the U.S. 64 between Franklin and Highlands.

The Town of Highlands:

After you see the waterfalls, you can go to The Town of Highlands, North Carolina. Enjoy the restaurants and hotels. The website for this is http://www.highlandsnc.org


There is also a lot of different things to do in the area of Highlands, whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River, fishing, swimming, and hiking.
